Merida’s shocking corset!!!
SHOW US SOME SKIN haha (get it?  like she’s stripping?  no?)
- But do you see what I mean when I said I thought it was plain for a princess?  And it even looks dirty!  But that could be because Merida doesn’t care, or for historical accuracy, or both ;)

Well, corsets look like that though, If I’m correct, no one really wore them on the outside till later, so they weren’t fancy. (Although I have no idea what “time” it is in this plot so I don’t even know)

I believe the idea is that she’s a princess, and would therefore have a cleaner corset. Or at least one that didn’t look five years old.
Although I am surprised she’s not wearing a chemise underneath the corset. Unless we can’t see that.
:\

Historically she wouldn’t be wearing a corset… based on the clothes, they didn’t wear corsets back then.  Also, I’m pretty sure there’s a white underdress under it, because you can see it in the sides when it rips, and along the neckline.

Actually, I don’t think it IS a corset. I think it’s an underdress that laces in the back. Lacing doesn’t necessarily equal corset, does it? D: I could be wrong though. I’m no historian or costumer, that’s just what my ignorant self thinks. xD

no, you know that would make sense considering the historical time frame. I *think* this is set before the 1400s but I really know jack shit about the film save for a few gifs and screencaps I’ve seen. I’m not sure why a chemise would be laced in the back though. Again though, this isn’t my era of expertise.
The lacing itself is even wrong; if I’m not mistaken, they would have used spiral lacing on almost everything laced before the 18th century.
See they need to be careful about this shit because we’ll nitpick forever ;D
